1. INTEGRATIVE PROCESS
Intentions
Supports high-performance, cost-effective project outcomes through early analysis of the interrelationships between systems.
Requirements
Starting with pre-design and continuing throughout the design phase, identify and use opportunities for synergies across disciplines and building systems to evaluate strategies related to: programming and operational parameters. Multifunctional space, operating schedule, space allocation per capita, telecommuting, building area reduction, estimated operation and maintenance assessment
How the Kingspan KoolDuct system meets this
The size of a building's space is usually calculated as 'building floor area', but volume can be just as important. KoolDuct HVAC pre-insulated ducts are constructed of thermally efficient insulation and occupy less building volume than galvanized ducts insulated with thick mineral fibers of the same R value. Duct made with the Kingspan KoolDuct System saves space by eliminating the space required to manually install extra insulation around the duct.
Considering the initial design may increase some usable floor space or reduce the volume of the building.
Intent 2.1 Prerequisite Minimum Energy Performance
Reducing environmental and economic damage from excessive energy use by achieving minimum levels of energy efficiency for buildings and systems. Option 1. Full Building Energy Simulation
Requirements
Option 1. Full building energy simulation. It shows the improvement of the proposed building performance rating compared to the reference building. Calculate baseline building performance according to ANSI / ASHRAE / IESNA Standard 90.1–2010, Appendix G.
Option 2. Compliance ASHRAE 50% Complies with the mandatory and regulatory provisions of the Advanced Energy Design Guide ANSI / ASHRAE / IESNA Standard 90.1–2010. Compliance with HVAC and water heating requirements

Intent 2.3 Optimizing Energy Performance
To increase the level of energy performance beyond the prerequisites in order to reduce the environmental and economic damage associated with excessive energy use.
Requirements
Set energy performance targets no later than the schematic design phase. The target should be set in square feet of source energy use - kBtu per year (square meters - kW per year).
Option 1. Full Building Energy Simulation
Analyze efficiency measures during the design process and consider the results of design decisions. Use published data (such as Advanced Energy Design Guides) from energy simulations of efficiency opportunities, historical energy simulation analyzes for similar buildings, or analyzes for similar buildings. Analyzes efficiency measures with a focus on load reduction and HVAC-related strategies that are appropriate for the facility (allowing for passive action). Estimate potential energy savings and overall project cost impacts associated with all affected systems.
How the Kingspan KoolDuct system meets this
KoolDuct is free from CFCs and HCFCs and has no ozone depletion potential.
How the Kingspan KoolDuct system meets this
The R-value of KoolDuct, along with a lower air leak rating (which may be lower than leak class 6), can increase the energy performance level beyond the prerequisites. When performing a full building energy simulation, it can show the percentage of improvement in the proposed building performance compared to a baseline building performance rating.
Intent 2.4 Improved Refrigerant Management
Reduce ozone depletion and support early compliance with the Montreal Protocol while minimizing its direct contribution to climate change.
Requirements
Do not use refrigerants or use only refrigerants (naturally occurring or synthetic) with an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of zero and a global warming potential (GWP) less than 50.
How the Kingspan KoolDuct system meets this
KoolDuct is a low-impact blowing agent with zero ODP, GWP of £5 (5 pieces or less).
3. Materials and sources
Intent 3.1. Reduce building lifecycle impact
Encourage adaptive reuse and optimize the environmental performance of products and materials.
Requirements
Demonstrate reduced environmental impact during initial project decision making by reusing existing building resources or demonstrating reduced material use through life cycle assessments.
Option 1. Reuse historic buildings
Option 2. Whole building life cycle assessment (for new construction)
How the Kingspan KoolDuct system meets this
The Kingspan KoolDuct system is ideal for projects where space and existing design aspects may be an issue, such as historic buildings.
The system is lightweight and installed with a single fixture and, if necessary, flush with the ceiling.
This means that there is only minimal intervention into the features existing in the existing building.
KoolDuct life cycle assessment shows reduced material usage and environmental impact compared to galvanized steel
(See: BRE Global's KoolDuct Lifecycle Assessment)
Intent 3.2. Building Product Disclosure and Optimization Environment Product Declaration
